As one passes by the store, there is a wonderful smell of cooking meat comming into the car. The food, however tends to be tough and dry from overcooking and portions are on the small side. The sauce is runny and overspiced. Hillary's is geared for take-out and the seating is poor. There are other BBQ shacks that provide a much better product.

The atmosphere is incredible, the staff is extremely friendly, its like coming home to momma's kitchen. You get amazing food for incredible prices, the trip is well worth it. My grandfather from backwoods Tupelo Mississippi LOVES going to Hillery's just because of the atmosphere, not to mention the incredible rib tips! And the fried okra, don't even ask him, he'll go on for hours! If you do nothing else, try the BBQ chicken. My father swears by it. Love that place!

I used to live near Hillery's and fell in LOVE with the BBQ!!! I now live in New York City, and have yet to find BBQ that even comes close to Hillery's!! If you love rich, tangy sauce and tender slow cooked meat then you MUST get to Hillery's once in your lifetime!! Everytime I go back to North Chicago to visit, I don't leave without getting my "large rib tip with extra sauce"!! Truly one of my favorite places to eat in the US!! I can't wait to move back so I can have this fabulous BBQ whenever I want!! Thanks Hillery's!!

Being a true BBQ lover, and having traveled all over the country in search of great BBQ, naturally I had to try one of the local BBQ chains located by me here in Lake County, IL. Although the sweet scent of a hickory smoker permeates the air for a square block (which is usually a sign of good BBQ), unfortunately my visits have each met with the same results; this is not very good Q. The food lacks the care and quality of any great southern BBQ joint, entries are served up in greasy fat saturated pools of BBQ sauce, in an attempt to cover up the cheep fatty cuts of meat. Hillery's supposedly specializes in rib tips and spare ribs, both of which lack any kind of BBQ bark or smoky flavor which gets lost in the greasy crock pot results of what actually gets served anyway.
